Our country’s armed forces are essential to the strength of our state, our nation and the well being of all our communities.

They respond to our communities’, states’ and country’s needs and they deserve the support and recognition of every segment of our society.

As Operation Iraqi Freedom has proved once again, the members of our Connecticut National Guard and Reserves are critical components of our nation’s military forces. Approximately 1,761 residents of Connecticut who are members of the Guard and Reserves are currently serving on active duty in support of the global war on terrorism.

In honor of their dedication and their bravery, this year’s Digest is dedicated to Connecticut’s service men and women defending our country and preserving our freedoms.

The hearts and prayers of our entire state are with them and their families. We will never forget their sacrifice, and we will never forget their devotion to duty.
